Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced a brief break from public engagements following medical advice to rest.
Obi disclosed this in a statement via his official X account, explaining that he began feeling unwell while attending a tourism event in Enugu. After visiting a hospital, doctors prescribed medication and recommended one to two days of rest.
“Earlier in Enugu, I was not feeling well. I visited the hospital where the doctor gave me some medication and advised me to take a day or two days rest. In obedience to the doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements within and outside the country this weekend,” Obi wrote.
The former governor apologised to supporters and organisers of upcoming events for any inconvenience caused, asking for understanding during the short pause in his schedule.
Despite his health setback, Obi maintained his focus on healthcare development. He revealed that he had donated ₦10 million to support the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria in acquiring and revitalising the Good Hope Specialist Hospital in Isulo, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
“Healthcare remains one of the most meaningful investments we can make. Faith-based organisations have shown, time and again, that with the right support, they can deliver excellence,” Obi stated.
He also commended the Diocese’s vision to transform the facility into a full health complex with a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology.

After his visit to Isulo, Obi travelled to Owerri, where he attended a dinner hosted by Barrister Nnaemeka Maduagwu in honour of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
Obi’s announcement signals only a temporary pause in his activities. He reassured supporters that he remains committed to his advocacy for quality healthcare and national development.
