President Bola Tinubu has vowed to intensify Nigeria’s fight against insecurity following a high-level meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima and 23 state governors in Lagos.
The meeting, held at the President’s residence during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, brought together key political stakeholders as the administration signals a renewed push to tackle security challenges across the country.
Tinubu described insecurity as the “next phase” of Nigeria’s collective struggle, stressing that it remains a major threat to national development, progress, and prosperity. He assured the governors of his administration’s commitment to strengthening security architecture through both local and international collaboration.
The President disclosed that discussions with global partners are already underway, including engagements with the United Kingdom and France, aimed at securing military equipment and operational support. He revealed that he recently held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron as part of efforts to boost Nigeria’s security capacity.
Beyond security, Tinubu raised concerns over the economic strain facing Nigerians, warning that the ongoing Middle East crisis could further worsen inflation and weaken purchasing power. He urged state governors to prioritize the welfare of vulnerable citizens and implement measures to cushion the impact of rising costs.
The President also called for stronger collaboration between federal and state governments, encouraging governors to translate policies into tangible improvements in citizens’ lives while remaining resolute against criminal elements.

On their part, the governors, led by the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, reaffirmed their commitment to tackling insecurity, revealing that discussions on the creation of state police are ongoing and may soon be presented to the National Assembly for legislative backing.
The gathering comes amid renewed security concerns in parts of the country, with authorities under increasing pressure to deliver decisive results.
Tinubu’s latest pledge signals a coordinated national effort, but for many Nigerians, the real test will lie in how quickly these promises translate into improved safety and economic relief.
