The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has appealed to the Kebbi State Government to relocate its orientation camp to Birnin Kebbi, citing growing concerns over the safety and security of corps members.

The request was made amid ongoing efforts to ensure a secure environment for prospective corps members participating in the mandatory three-week orientation programme. NYSC officials expressed concern that the current camp location may not provide the level of security required for the welfare of participants.

According to the scheme, relocating the camp to Birnin Kebbi would enhance security arrangements, improve accessibility, and provide a safer environment for corps members and camp officials.

The appeal highlights the increasing importance of security considerations in the management of orientation camps across the country, particularly in areas facing security challenges. The welfare and protection of corps members have remained a top priority for the NYSC and state governments.

Stakeholders have noted that a relocation to the state capital could also improve infrastructure, emergency response capabilities, healthcare access, and logistics for camp operations.

The call comes as authorities continue to assess measures aimed at safeguarding corps members during their service year. Security concerns have become a major factor in decisions relating to postings, accommodation, and camp administration in several parts of the country.

If approved, the relocation would represent a significant step toward strengthening the safety framework for corps members deployed to Kebbi State and ensuring a more conducive orientation exercise.

The Kebbi State Government is yet to announce a final decision on the request, but discussions are expected to continue between state authorities and the NYSC leadership.
