The opening ceremony of the 1st National Teqball League took place on Thursday, March 26th 2026 at the tennis court of the Aba Sports Club 1926
The opening ceremony kick-started with the athletes’ parade alongside the referees, followed by opening remark by the Chairman of Abia State Teqball Association Mr Frank Chinagorom who expressed delight in having the competition hosted during his time as chairman of Abia state Teqball Association
Declaring the event open, the Governor of Abia State Dr Alex Otti OFR, represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Sports, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba stated his joy on the growth and acceptance of Teqball in Abia state and promised the state government’s support towards the growth of the sports
Speaking on behalf of Habu Gumel, President, Teqball Federation of Nigeria, Mr Ndudi Edede, the National Vice President used the opportunity to thank the state government for its support.
Also, a minute silence was observed for three departed members of the federation; Mr Wowo Gomba former state chairman Rivers State Medical Association, Mr Promise Uwaeme, former Head of Communication Teqball Federation of Nigeria and Mr Kenneth Owuegbuna former coach Rivers State Teqball Association.
The event had in attendance the 68 Chairman of Aba Sports Club, Chief Sir Nkeme Enukeme represented by former Director of Sports, Abia State Sports Council, Sir Isaac .O. Isaac, National Secretary of Nigeria Teqball Federation, Dadel Jwanshak Yakubu, Vice Chairman Abia state Teqball Association Mr Micheal Ogbonna among other dignitaries.
The games began on Wednesday but was officially declared open on Thursday. 18 states and an invited athlete from Ghana will battle for the league title. There would be prizes also for winners in the mixed doubles games.
