The political landscape in Abia State is witnessing fresh developments following the decision of the faction of the Labour Party led by Julius Abure to issue free nomination forms to Engr. Henry Eze and Hon. Emmanuel Iheukwumere.

The nomination forms were presented to Engr. Henry Eze for the Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency seat, while Hon. Nwoko Emmanuel Iheukwumere received his form for the Aba North State Constituency position.

The development is already generating reactions across political circles in the state, with supporters describing it as a major boost for the Labour Party’s grassroots mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The latest move comes amid the lingering leadership tussle within the Labour Party at the national level. Recall that the Abure-led faction had approached the Supreme Court to challenge earlier legal pronouncements concerning the party’s leadership and the recognition of Usman Namadi as national leader.

Speaking after receiving the nomination form, Engr. Henry Eze expressed confidence that the Supreme Court ruling would eventually favour the Abure-led faction. According to him, the group remains fully prepared and politically positioned to participate actively in the 2027 general elections.

He thanked the party leadership for what he described as a rare privilege and vote of confidence, pledging to deliver quality representation and meaningful democratic dividends to the people of Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency if elected.

Eze further emphasized the need for inclusive governance, infrastructural development, youth empowerment, and improved welfare for constituents, stating that the people deserve responsive and accountable leadership.

The official presentation ceremony attracted several Labour Party ward leaders and stakeholders from different wards across Aba North and Aba South, underscoring the growing support base of the faction within the state.

Political observers believe the endorsement and issuance of free nomination forms may signal the beginning of intensified political realignments in Abia as parties begin early preparations for the 2027 electoral contest.
