Reports emerging from several international media outlets indicate that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is preparing to leave the club at the end of the 2025/26 season, potentially bringing an end to one of the most successful managerial reigns in football history.
According to reports from The Guardian, Fox Sports, and other European outlets, Guardiola is expected to step down after completing a decade in charge at the Etihad Stadium. The Spaniard reportedly plans to announce his decision shortly after City’s final Premier League match of the season against Aston Villa.
Guardiola joined Manchester City in 2016 and transformed the club into one of the most dominant teams in world football. Under his leadership, City won multiple Premier League titles, domestic cups, and their first-ever UEFA Champions League trophy, while also becoming the first English club to secure four consecutive Premier League titles.
Despite signing a contract extension until 2027, speculation about Guardiola’s future has intensified in recent months. Reports claim the 55-year-old manager may be seeking a break from club football after years of high-pressure competition and sustained success.
Former Manchester City assistant coach and ex-Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is widely being tipped as the leading candidate to succeed Guardiola. Maresca previously worked within City’s coaching structure and is believed to have the backing of key figures inside the club.
However, Guardiola had recently downplayed exit rumours, insisting he still had “incredible energy” and reminding reporters that he still has one year left on his current contract.
If confirmed, Guardiola’s departure would mark the end of a historic era for Manchester City, with fans and football analysts already debating how the club will adapt to life without the coach who reshaped its identity and dominance in English football.
