Germany has reportedly rejected the nomination of former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, as Nigeria’s ambassador, citing concerns over his past public statements.

According to a report by Peoples Gazette, German authorities declined the appointment over what they described as “erratic behaviour” and controversial remarks considered ethnically and religiously divisive.

The report further claimed that the decision was communicated earlier in March, raising questions about the diplomatic implications of the nomination.

Fani-Kayode, however, has denied the claim, dismissing it as false and politically motivated.

In a response shared on social media, the former minister accused opposition figures of attempting to discredit him, insisting that the report was “fake news” and part of a broader smear campaign.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier approved Fani-Kayode’s posting as ambassador to Germany as part of a broader list of diplomatic appointments announced in March 2026.

The controversy adds another layer to Nigeria’s ongoing diplomatic processes, as ambassadorial nominees typically require acceptance—known as agrément—from host countries before formal deployment.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from German authorities regarding the alleged rejection.
