ACCRA — Ghanaian football has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of Dominic Frimpong, a winger for Berekum Chelsea F.C., who was killed during an armed robbery attack on the club’s team bus.

The incident occurred on Sunday as the team was returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture against Samartex. Armed assailants reportedly blocked the road and opened fire on the bus, forcing players and officials to flee for safety.

Frimpong, aged 20, was struck in the head during the attack and later died from his injuries at a nearby hospital. He was the only fatality recorded in the ambush.

The Ghana Football Association described the incident as a devastating loss, noting that the young winger was a promising talent who had shown great potential during his time with the club.

Frimpong had joined Berekum Chelsea on loan and made 13 league appearances this season, scoring two goals before his untimely death.

The attack has raised fresh concerns about the safety of teams travelling for domestic matches in Ghana, with authorities launching investigations and pledging to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The tragic killing has sent shockwaves across the football community, with tributes pouring in for a player widely regarded as one of the country’s emerging talents.
