An Aba-based woman, Adanna Judith Mmaachonu, has publicly retracted defamatory claims she made against Eberechi Mercy Ejibe, a woman from Abiriba in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, after branding her a “killer” and “kidnapper” on Facebook and TikTok.
In a formal Notice of Retraction and Public Apology published in a widely-circulated newspaper on Thursday, May 28, 2026, Mmaachonu admitted she authored and posted a damaging write-up against Ejibe on May 17, 2026, in which she described Ejibe as a killer and a kidnapper allegations she has now confessed are entirely false.
The original Facebook post, made under the account “Judith Mma,” went viral and included multiple photographs of Ejibe alongside her phone number, home address, and personal details. The post urged members of the public to “be guided and stay at alert,” tagging the popular blog Lindaikejiblog to amplify its reach.

In the retraction notice, Mmaachonu a native of Umuneke Ugiri, Isiala Mbano LGA of Imo State but residing at No. 53 Nwankpa Street, off Faulks Road, Aba admitted the publication was false and could have caused serious damage to Ejibe’s reputation.
“I wish to inform the general public that what I wrote/posted against Eberechi Mercy Ejibe is totally false and should be disregarded,” the retraction reads. “I hereby wholeheartedly apologize to her for the said publication which may have caused serious damage to her reputation.”
The case highlights the growing menace of online defamation in Nigeria, where unverified social media posts especially those shared on Facebook and TikTok can rapidly destroy the reputation and personal safety of innocent individuals before any accountability mechanism is triggered. Ejibe’s phone number and home address were publicly shared in the post, exposing her to potential mob action or harassment.

It is unclear whether Ejibe has taken any legal steps against Mmaachonu beyond receiving the public apology. The retraction was signed by Mmaachonu and published on Sun newspaper’s Vol. 21, No. 6026 edition.
