It sounds ironic that with only two games left to end the season, no team has been confirmed relegated, while the push to grab the diadem is getting fiercer, meaning that the fate of the teams could go to the wire.

For Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia, they should apply their grade A game as they welcome Kun Khalifat Football Club of Owerri in their last Oriental derby of the season at the iconic Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.

It is a clash of contrasting ambitions– the hosts holding firm to a glimmer of hope in pursuit of Continental football, while the visitors are battling fiercely to avoid the drop, having found themselves in the muddy relegation waters.

Abia Warriors’ embarrassing and disappointing defeat by title chasers, Rivers United, in Port Harcourt last tim , came at the worst possible time, and has left their Continental aspirations hanging delicately in the balance.

What could have been a decisive push toward the top three has now turned into a tense and nervy finish to the season. It’s all on the line now; every point matters, every minute is decisive, and Umu Chineke will now chase the remaining six points of the season with nothing left to hold back and everything to prove, beginning with the Kun Khalifat fixture.

The Warriors sit in 6th position with 55 points on the NPFL table, and are still in the mix for a Continental ticket, while the Owerri boys are in the relegation zone in 17th position with 43 points, and will surely look to avenge the 1-0 defeat they suffered at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri in the reverse fixture.

They arrive in Aba demanding respect, having rediscovered their bite. The visitors look reborn, and will play with the urgency of a side that has nothing to lose and everything to gain. For sure, they will throw everything at the Warriors in a bid to snatch the win that could keep them afloat.

But the Warriors have proven to be an Indomitable side at their temporary home ground– with only one draw and winning the rest of their home games, the stats underscore their invincibility.

From the Warriors’ perspective, winning alone isn’t enough; they will also hope that other results swing in their favour as the race for Continental qualification hits a boiling point.

When two contrasting ambitions collide– one sailing the upward trajectory and the other fighting not to fall– the tone is set for a contest where every tackle, every pass, and every second carries the weight of two fixtures.
