Head coach of Abia Warriors, Imama Amapakabo, has described the club’s temporary relocation to Aba as a “blessing in disguise,” despite early challenges adapting to the new environment.
The Nigeria Premier Football League side has been playing its home matches at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, a shift that initially posed difficulties for the players, particularly in adjusting to the AstroTurf surface.
Amapakabo admitted that the unfamiliar pitch affected the team’s rhythm in early games, noting that it was their first experience playing regularly on the surface. However, he emphasized that the move has gradually become beneficial as the team adapts.
According to the coach, the new venue has helped build resilience within the squad, forcing players to improve their technical play and adaptability under different conditions.

Abia Warriors, who are pushing for a strong finish in the NPFL season, have shown signs of improvement despite inconsistent results in recent fixtures. The team remains in contention for a top-three finish and a possible return to continental football.
Amapakabo maintained that the experience in Aba could ultimately strengthen the team’s competitiveness, particularly in high-pressure matches where adaptability is key.
The development highlights how logistical challenges in Nigerian football can sometimes translate into opportunities for growth, with Abia Warriors aiming to turn their temporary home into a fortress as the season progresses.
