The Chairman of the former elected councilors in Abia state, Hon. Tony Agbayim, who represented the good people of Ariaria Ward in Aba North under the 1999 democratic dispensation, has extended warm and heartfelt felicitations to Catholic mothers across the world with a special embrace for the women of Aba North who carry the weight of family, community, and faith on their tireless shoulders.
In a statement issued ahead of this year’s Mothers Day, the politician fondly known as Mr. Democracy and who has declared interest to represent Aba North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly in 2027, described mothers as the first and most enduring institution of governance ever established by God.
“Before there were presidents and parliaments, there were mothers, A mother is the first teacher, the first judge, the first minister of health, the first economist of the home. She is the original government and she has never stopped working.” – Hon. Agbayim said.
Paying tribute to the irreplaceable role of women in society, Hon. Agbayim noted that the strength of every nation is hidden in plain sight in the markets of Aba, in the classrooms, in the pews of Catholic parishes across the world, and in the quiet dignity of mothers who sacrifice daily without seeking recognition.
“It is the woman who rises before dawn so her children rise with opportunity, It is the mother who holds the family together when everything else is falling apart. Nigeria would not stand without her women. Aba North would not breathe without its mothers.” – He said.
Having served the people of Ariaria Ward at the grassroots level since the return of democracy in 1999, Hon. Agbayim said his connection to the women of Aba North is personal, not political. He called on them to brace for a new dawn.
“I know the road has been hard. I understand the current economic challenges and many homes carry burdens no mother should bear alone, But I say to the women of Aba North today: with the current leadership of Dr Alex Otti in our dear state, the season is changing. A better Abia and Aba North is not a promise made on a campaign podium, it is a commitment I have carried since I first served this community in 1999. We are building, and your time of relief is coming.” – He added
He urged the women of the constituency to remain engaged, demand accountability, and lend their voices to the movement for genuine representation in 2027.
Hon. Agbayim closed his message with a prayer for Catholic mothers everywhere:
“May the Blessed Virgin Mary herself the greatest mother the world has ever known intercede for every mother today. May God grant you strength where you are weary, peace where you are troubled, joy where you have sorrowed, and long life to see the harvest of every seed you have planted in your children. You are loved. You are honoured. You are irreplaceable. Happy Mothers Day.”
