The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) took centre stage in Lagos on Saturday night as celebrities, filmmakers and entertainment enthusiasts from across Africa gathered for one of the continent’s biggest entertainment events.
The prestigious award ceremony, held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, celebrated excellence in African film, television and digital content, with several stars making stunning appearances on the red carpet before the main show commenced.
This year’s edition featured 32 award categories, including jury-decided and audience-voted awards, alongside special recognition honours for outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry. Organisers also introduced new categories aimed at expanding African representation in indigenous language storytelling.
Popular productions such as Gingerrr, The Herd, To Kill A Monkey and My Father’s Shadow emerged among the strongest contenders heading into the awards night after securing multiple nominations.
Veteran actress Joke Silva served as Head Judge for the 2026 edition, succeeding filmmaker Femi Odugbemi.
The ceremony also marked a major hosting transition, with comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha leading proceedings following the exit of longtime host IK Osakioduwa after 11 years.
Fans across the continent followed the ceremony through live broadcasts on Africa Magic channels as winners continued to emerge across major acting, directing and production categories.
