The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the replacement of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as chairman of the party’s national convention planning committee. The ruling party named former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, as the new chairman in a move aimed at reinforcing preparations for the upcoming convention.
The decision was disclosed in a statement issued by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, who explained that the change forms part of internal restructuring to ensure the success of the convention. According to the party, Masari’s appointment reflects its commitment to organising a credible and well-coordinated national gathering.

Masari, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives and a long-standing member of the APC, is widely regarded as an experienced political administrator. Party officials expressed confidence that his leadership would enhance planning efforts and promote unity among stakeholders ahead of the convention.

Governor Uzodimma had earlier been appointed to head the planning committee, but the party leadership did not provide specific reasons for his replacement. However, APC sources noted that the reshuffle was part of broader strategies to strengthen party structures and ensure seamless coordination of convention activities.
The national convention is expected to play a critical role in shaping the party’s leadership structure, policy direction, and political strategies ahead of future elections. Observers believe the event will also provide an opportunity for the APC to consolidate its internal cohesion and address emerging political challenges.
The APC has yet to announce a new date for the convention but reiterated its commitment to conducting the exercise in line with the party’s constitution and democratic principles. Party leaders urged members to remain united and support the new committee leadership as preparations intensify.
