BEIJING — China has reaffirmed its determination to strengthen its economy to withstand mounting global challenges, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Sunday, highlighting the nation’s strategic focus as international economic shifts accelerate.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the fourth session of the 14th National People’s Congress in Beijing, Mr. Wang a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee underlined the need for economic resilience amid what he described as rapid and unprecedented global changes.
“Our national rejuvenation is unstoppable, and we are forging ahead at full speed in building a great country,” Mr. Wang told reporters, noting China’s rising global influence under the leadership of the Communist Party and President Xi Jinping.
To bolster the nation’s economic strength, the foreign minister said China stands ready to work closely with like‑minded countries to build a shared future and deepen dialogue and coordination among major powers.
Observers note that China’s positioning as a stable engine of global growth has been increasingly emphasized by government officials in recent months, even as the country adjusts to slower growth and broader external pressures.
China’s economy has grown at an average annual rate of 5.4 percent over the past five years, contributing about 30 percent of global growth, greater than the total output of the Group of Seven nations combined, Mr. Wang added.
He also highlighted China’s commitment to expanding high‑standard opening‑up, supporting trade and investment liberalisation, and maintaining stable global industrial and supply chains moves aimed at strengthening resilience to global economic shifts.
The foreign minister’s remarks come as policymakers balance domestic priorities and international cooperation amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainties.
