Ex Enyimba FC star player and Nigerian youth international Daniel Daga has been sentenced to six months in prison by a court in Norway after being found guilty of committing a sexual act without consent.
The verdict was delivered by the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court, which ruled against the Molde FK midfielder following a legal process in which prosecutors sought both a custodial sentence and financial penalties.
According to reports, the 19-year-old Nigerian footballer was also ordered to pay approximately $1,050 in legal costs after the court concluded that the offence had been proven.
Daga, who represented Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA U‑20 World Cup, denied wrongdoing throughout the trial. His defence lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, said the player was deeply disappointed by the ruling and maintains that the encounter occurred with consent.
The defence has already indicated plans to appeal the judgment, meaning the verdict is not yet legally final as the case proceeds through Norway’s judicial process.
In a statement following the ruling, Molde FK described the case as difficult for everyone involved and confirmed that the player would remain suspended from team activities while the legal proceedings continue.
The case has attracted significant attention within Nigerian football circles given Daga’s status as one of the country’s promising young midfield talents both as a fomer Enyimba FC player and a member of the Flying Eagles squad that competed at the global youth tournament in 2023.
