The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has released the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination results of candidates below the prescribed admission age.
The results are now available for candidates and their parents or guardians to check, but JAMB warned that the release does not automatically make underage candidates eligible for admission.
For the 2026 admission exercise, JAMB defines an underage candidate as anyone who will be below 16 years old as of September 30, 2026.
Candidates can check their results by sending RESULT via SMS to 55019 or 66019 using the same telephone number they used to register for the UTME.
JAMB explained that the results were released mainly to enable candidates and their parents or guardians to know how they performed in the examination.
However, the results cannot be used for admission or other official purposes unless the candidate meets the conditions set for exceptionally performing underage candidates.
The board said only underage candidates who satisfy its strict requirements would be considered for admission.
One of the major requirements is a minimum UTME score of 320, in addition to at least 80 per cent in relevant Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination subjects, where applicable.
Such candidates must also satisfy the Post-UTME requirements of their chosen institutions and undergo a final assessment conducted by experts.
JAMB said the assessment process is still ongoing and has not reached its final stage.
The board explained that it would wait for the release of the National Examinations Council results before completing the assessment because some candidates are still awaiting their NECO results.
According to JAMB, a date for the final assessment will be announced after the NECO results are released.
The board urged candidates, parents and guardians to be wary of individuals claiming they can secure admission for underage candidates outside the approved process.
JAMB stressed that sitting for the UTME and obtaining a result does not guarantee admission, particularly for candidates who have not reached the stipulated admission age.
The board said the exceptional admission process would remain rigorous and merit-based to ensure that only candidates who meet all the requirements are admitted.
