The Labour Party has constituted an eight-member screening committee to oversee the screening of aspirants seeking elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development was announced in a public notice jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, and National Secretary, Iheanacho Obioma, on Friday in Abuja.

According to the notice, the committee was established in line with the provisions of the Labour Party constitution and the party’s electoral guidelines for the 2026 primaries.

The committee is chaired by Nenadi Usman and includes members such as Mrs Oluchi Oparah, Comrade Mohammed Salisu, Pastor Martina Umana, Mrs Deborah Yusuf, Dr Chibuzo Okereke and Dr Olu Ayewo, while Iheanacho Obioma will serve as secretary.

The panel has been mandated to screen aspirants contesting for presidential, governorship and National Assembly positions and recommend qualified candidates for the party’s nomination primaries.

According to the timetable released by the party, the screening of House of Assembly and governorship aspirants is scheduled for May 20, while National Assembly and presidential aspirants will be screened on May 22.

The Labour Party urged members of the committee to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, fairness and diligence as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.

Earlier, the party had released its timetable for the conduct of primaries and fixed dates for various nomination exercises leading to the 2027 general elections.
