The Labour Party has presented free nomination and expression of interest forms to Abia State Governor Alex Otti ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The presentation was reportedly made by leaders of the party during a political gathering in Umuahia, where supporters and stakeholders reaffirmed their backing for Otti’s administration and possible re-election bid.
Party officials said the decision to offer the governor free nomination forms was based on what they described as his performance in office and commitment to the ideals of the Labour Party since assuming office in 2023.
Speaking during the event, Labour Party leaders reportedly praised Otti’s infrastructure projects, reforms in public finance management, and efforts to improve governance in Abia State. They argued that his administration had restored confidence in leadership and governance within the state.
The gesture is widely seen as an early endorsement of Otti by key stakeholders within the party ahead of preparations for the 2027 general elections. Political observers believe the move signals the party’s intention to retain Abia State, currently regarded as one of Labour Party’s strongest political footholds in the South-East.
Governor Otti, while reacting to the development, reportedly thanked the party leadership and supporters for their confidence in his administration. He reiterated his commitment to delivering good governance and sustaining ongoing development projects across the state.
The Abia governor also urged party members to remain united and focused as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the next election cycle.
Since assuming office, Otti has remained one of the most prominent figures in the Labour Party and has frequently been mentioned in discussions surrounding the party’s future direction and electoral strategy ahead of 2027.
The latest development comes amid increasing political realignments and consultations across major parties as politicians position themselves for the next round of elections nationwide.
