Detained Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro has issued his first public message from a United States prison, thanking supporters and calling for national unity amid his ongoing trial.
In the statement shared online, Maduro expressed gratitude for the solidarity he has received since his arrest, describing himself as calm and resolute despite his detention.
He also used the message to call for reconciliation, urging Venezuelans to embrace dialogue, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence during what he described as a critical period in the country’s history.
Maduro, who is currently being held in a federal detention facility in the United States, is facing serious charges including alleged drug trafficking and related offences following his dramatic capture earlier in 2026.
His latest statement comes as Venezuela undergoes a political transition, with interim leadership under Delcy Rodríguez working to stabilize the country while engaging in reforms and negotiations with international actors.
Despite his legal troubles, Maduro’s message signals an attempt to maintain political relevance and rally loyalists at home and abroad, even as his fate now lies in the hands of the U.S. judicial system.
