Police in Cross River State have arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly killing his brother in a violent attack in Abi Local Government Area.

The suspect, identified as Emereze Okoro, was accused of murdering the victim with a machete in Igbo Imabana village at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday.

The incident was reported in the early hours of April 11 by a relative, Egbe Enya, who told authorities that his younger brother, Egbegi Enya, had been fatally attacked.

Confirming the development, the Cross River State Police Command said officers from the Abi Division swiftly responded to the report, visited the crime scene, and evacuated the victim’s body to the mortuary at a hospital in Itigidi.

Police spokesperson, ASP Sunday Akata, stated that the suspect has since been apprehended and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further questioning.

Authorities added that investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to identify and arrest any other individuals who may have been involved in the incident.

The tragic killing highlights growing concerns over violent domestic disputes, as law enforcement agencies continue to grapple with cases involving family-related conflicts across the country.
