A Moroccan club has reportedly terminated the contract of a Senegalese midfielder following his reaction to the controversial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title decision.
The player, whose identity has been linked to reports circulating in local media, was dismissed by his club after allegedly making remarks perceived as disrespectful to Morocco’s newly awarded AFCON triumph.
The development comes in the wake of a highly contentious ruling by the Confederation of African Football, which stripped Senegal of the AFCON title and awarded it to Morocco after determining that the West African side forfeited the final.
Senegal had originally won the match 1-0 after extra time, but CAF’s Appeal Board ruled that their temporary walk-off during the game constituted a breach of competition regulations, leading to a 3-0 default victory for Morocco.
Following the ruling, reactions from Senegalese players and stakeholders have ranged from disbelief to outright condemnation, with some footballers openly criticising or mocking the decision.
According to reports, the midfielder’s comments did not go down well with his Moroccan employers, who viewed them as undermining a decision of national importance.

Although the club did not officially state the exact reason for the termination, sources indicated that internal disciplinary action was taken swiftly after the remarks surfaced.
The incident highlights the far-reaching consequences of the AFCON controversy, which has continued to generate tension across African football circles, extending beyond national teams to club environments.
Senegal have since vowed to challenge the CAF ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, insisting that the decision lacks fairness and sporting integrity.
The situation remains fluid, with the fallout from the AFCON decision still reverberating across the continent’s football landscape.
