Former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, has officially declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Orji, widely known by his political nickname “Ikuku,” on Tuesday picked up the Expression of Interest and Nomination Form of the All Progressives Congress (APC), confirming his entry into the race for the party’s ticket for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.
The move marks a major political comeback for the former state lawmaker, who once led the Abia State legislature and remains one of the prominent figures in the state’s political landscape.
If successful in securing the APC ticket, Orji is expected to challenge for the seat currently occupied by Obi Aguocha in the House of Representatives. Aguocha won the constituency under the Labour Party platform during the 2023 general elections.
Political observers say Orji’s declaration could reshape the contest in the federal constituency, given his political structure, grassroots support, and experience in legislative affairs.
The Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency is considered one of the key political battlegrounds in Abia State, with parties already positioning ahead of the 2027 polls.
