Nigeria’s Super Falcons will today discover their route to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducts the draw for the women’s Olympic qualifying tournament in Cairo, Egypt.
The draw is scheduled to hold at CAF headquarters by 1 p.m. on Wednesday and will be streamed live on the CAF YouTube channel for fans across the continent.
A total of 35 African nations have entered the qualification race, underlining the growing competition in women’s football across the continent. Countries in the draw include Nigeria, South Africa, Morocco, Ghana, Cameroon, Zambia, Tunisia, Senegal and several emerging sides.
CAF has structured the qualifiers into five rounds, with only two African teams eventually securing tickets to the women’s football tournament at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

Nigeria will hope to maintain its strong pedigree in African women’s football after featuring alongside Zambia as Africa’s representatives during the qualification cycle for the Paris 2024 Games.
The Super Falcons, Africa’s most successful women’s national team, are expected to be among the favourites, but the limited qualification slots mean there will be little room for error.
Today’s draw will determine Nigeria’s early opponents and the pathway the nine-time African champions must navigate to reach another Olympic tournament.
