Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti has commissioned the renovated Government Cottage Hospital, Umuihie, Okporoahaba, in Isiala Ngwa South LGA, and performed the ground breaking ceremony for the reconstruction of the historic 100-bedded Okpuala Ngwa General Hospital in Isiala Ngwa North LGA, as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration on Monday, May 25, 2026.
Governor Otti described the Okpuala Ngwa General Hospital as a facility of immense historical significance, noting that it once served as one of the premier healthcare institutions in the old Eastern Region.
“What we have come here to do today is to restore this hospital to its former glory, it was a shame successive administrations had allowed the facility to decay.” he declared,

He confirmed that reconstruction has already commenced and pledged to deliver a modern, state-of-the-art hospital in record time, adding that illegally acquired portions of the hospital land had been fully recovered by the government.
Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, disclosed that the reconstructed facility will feature consulting clinics, surgical units, diagnostic laboratories, radiology services, an accident and emergency unit, children’s ward, blood bank, and ambulance support.
He added that the commissioned cottage hospital is fully equipped and solar-powered to guarantee uninterrupted services, describing it as a critical referral hub for primary health centres across Isiala Ngwa South.

Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, and Hon. Roland Caesar praised Governor Otti for prioritising healthcare, while the Anglican Archbishop of Aba, Rt. Rev. Isaac Nwobia, and Eze Peter Emeonye of Okporoahaba described his health interventions as second to none.
The Governor had earlier commissioned two roads in Isiala Ngwa South, rounding out a day of multiple deliverables across the corridor.
