Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has directed a comprehensive survey of all lands belonging to the Nigeria Postal Service across the state as part of efforts to protect public assets and curb encroachment.
The directive, according to the state government, is aimed at identifying, documenting, and securing NIPOST properties, with a view to restoring them for effective institutional use.
Otti stated that the move aligns with his administration’s commitment to accountability, proper asset management, and the rule of law, stressing that public property must be safeguarded and utilised for the benefit of citizens.
He said that upon verification, the identified lands would be formally handed back to NIPOST to ensure their continued use for public service delivery.
As part of the initiative, the governor also ordered immediate intervention in a reported case of encroachment on NIPOST land in Item, Bende Local Government Area.
The state government said relevant ministries had been directed to take urgent action to resolve the issue and restore normal operations at the affected facility.
The administration noted that the exercise would not only address illegal occupation of public property but also reposition NIPOST facilities across the state for improved efficiency.
According to the government, there are plans to explore partnerships with NIPOST to transform existing postal offices into functional service and logistics hubs that can support economic activities.
Officials added that a detailed mapping of all NIPOST locations in the state is underway to guide planning and optimise the use of available infrastructure.
The initiative is part of broader reforms by the Otti administration aimed at strengthening institutions, enhancing service delivery, and promoting sustainable development in Abia State.
