The Lagos State Police Command has officially launched an investigation into multiple serious allegations against Pastor Chris Okafor, senior pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, authorities confirmed on Sunday. The development comes after the pastor was repeatedly accused in a series of widely shared social media posts.

In a statement, the police said Pastor Okafor has been invited to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Panti, Lagos on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., where he is expected to cooperate with investigators looking into the allegations.

Scope of the Investigation

The police disclosed that the probe will cover allegations of multiple rape, other sexual offences and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace and law and order in the state. Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh directed that the SCID carry out a thorough and professional investigation into all criminal allegations against the pastor, regardless of his position or status.

An official invitation letter has already been served on Okafor through his legal representatives, and the police said they expect his full cooperation. Security arrangements have been put in place to protect alleged victims who may come forward as part of the investigation.

The command also encouraged members of the public with credible information or evidence relevant to the case to come forward and assist investigators, stressing that victims’ identities would be kept strictly confidential throughout the process.

Background of the Controversy

The controversy surrounding Pastor Okafor intensified in mid-December 2025 after a growing number of allegations circulated on social media, prompting widespread public debate and concern. Among the women who made claims was Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, who posted emotional videos accusing Okafor of engaging in a long-term intimate relationship with her that allegedly began in 2017.

Ogala’s posts included accusations that the pastor had broken promises of marriage, shared private photographs publicly without consent, and contributed to the breakdown of her previous marriage. As the controversy gained traction, other individuals also came forward with varying claims of misconduct, pushing the matter into public focus.

In response to the mounting allegations, Okafor stepped aside from his pastoral duties on New Year’s Day and publicly apologised during a church service, acknowledging that “mistakes have been made” without addressing specific accusations.

Police Steps Up Investigation

Initially, the police had stated that no formal complaints had been filed by alleged victims, meaning no immediate action could be taken. However, authorities later confirmed that following renewed inquiries and direct communication with the Commissioner of Police, the SCID was authorised to invite the pastor for questioning and begin a full investigation into the allegations.

Officials have emphasised that the investigation is being conducted according to the law and will be impartial. The Lagos Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety and ensuring that justice is served without fear or favour.

Public Reaction and Ongoing Developments

The announcement of the investigation has drawn attention from both social media users and mainstream news outlets, with many calling for transparency and accountability throughout the process. As the case unfolds, more details are expected to emerge when Pastor Okafor appears before investigators and when any formal charges, if appropriate, are filed.

For now, the police investigation represents a major step in addressing the serious allegations that have captivated public discourse and raised questions about pastoral conduct and accountability in Nigeria’s religious landscape.
