Renowned American gospel singer, worship leader and songwriter Ron Kenoly has died at the age of 81, his music director confirmed this week. The veteran Christian musician’s passing on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, was announced via social media by longtime associate Bruno Miranda, who described the loss as profoundly felt within the global Christian community.

Kenoly’s death has triggered widespread reactions from fellow artists and worship leaders around the world, many of whom credited him with shaping contemporary praise and worship music. Nigerian gospel minister Nathaniel Bassey led tributes on Instagram, calling Kenoly “a generational inspiration” whose songs influenced his own ministry and that of countless others.

Born on December 6, 1944, in Coffeyville, Kansas, Kenoly rose to international prominence in the 1980s and 1990s with powerful live worship recordings and albums that resonated across denominational lines. His 1992 release Lift Him Up became one of the fastest-selling worship projects of its time, while other works such as Welcome Home achieved critical and chart success, further cementing his status in gospel music.

Kenoly’s musical catalogue included anthems like “Ancient of Days,” “Jesus Is Alive,” “Majesty,” and “Sing Out,” songs that have remained staples in church services and worship gatherings globally. His emphasis on congregational participation and heartfelt praise reshaped how modern churches approached worship music.

Beyond his recording career, Kenoly was a respected pastor and mentor, often leading worship seminars and conferences internationally and guiding upcoming worship leaders. Music director Miranda described him not merely as an entertainer but as a servant whose calling was to lead others into sincere worship.

Kenoly is survived by his family, including his wife and children. Tributes continue to pour in from across continents, reflecting the deep impact of his ministry on multiple generations of believers. His legacy is likely to endure through the music and lives he influenced.
