Controversial Nigerian influencer Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, is at the centre of a growing scandal following revelations surrounding her widely publicised cancer claim.
The influencer had earlier announced she was battling stage four cancer, a claim that drew sympathy from thousands of followers and reportedly generated at least ₦13 million in donations.
However, the narrative began to unravel after inconsistencies emerged in her story. Medical authorities, including the Nigerian Medical Association in Delta State, later disowned the cancer report she presented, stating it originally belonged to another patient.
The alleged owner of the report, Deborah Mbara, accused the influencer of manipulating her medical records to solicit funds. The development triggered public outrage and raised serious ethical and legal concerns.

In a dramatic twist, Blessing CEO later admitted during an interview that she did not have cancer. Despite acknowledging that she received donations, she reportedly maintained that she owed no apology and would not return the money an admission that further fueled criticism.
The controversy has since escalated into a legal matter. Petitions have been submitted to both the Nigeria Police Force and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), calling for a full investigation into allegations of fraud, forgery, and obtaining money under false pretence.
Legal experts warn that if the allegations are proven, the influencer could face serious charges under Nigerian law, including forgery and cybercrime-related offences.
Beyond the individual case, the incident has sparked a broader conversation about trust in online fundraising. In a country where many rely on public donations for medical treatment, the scandal threatens to undermine goodwill toward genuine patients in need.
The case continues to draw national attention, with calls for accountability growing louder as authorities deliberate on the next steps.
