Tinubu and Badaru

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday held separate closed-door meetings with former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, and former Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meetings, conducted privately, have generated political interest as details of the discussions were not disclosed by either the presidency or the visitors.

Ganduje was seen leaving the State House at about 4:15 p.m., while Badaru exited roughly 15 minutes later, indicating that both engagements were held separately rather than as a joint session.

Both political figures declined to speak with journalists after their meetings with the president, leaving the purpose of the consultations open to speculation.

The development comes shortly after the ruling APC held its 4th National Convention, where new party leadership emerged, fueling suggestions that the meetings may be linked to ongoing internal restructuring within the party.

Analysts also believe the consultations may not be unconnected to evolving political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly in key northern states where both Ganduje and Badaru remain influential figures.

Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, served as APC national chairman until his resignation in 2025, while Badaru, a former governor of Jigawa State, recently stepped down as Minister of Defence in Tinubu’s cabinet.

Although the exact agenda of the meetings remains unclear, the high-level consultations underscore ongoing political maneuvering within the ruling party amid shifting dynamics in the country’s political landscape.
