President Bola Tinubu has vowed that the cycle of violence in Plateau State will not be allowed to continue, assuring residents that recent killings would “not happen again” as the Federal Government intensifies its security response.
The pledge came in the wake of deadly attacks in parts of the state, including a Palm Sunday assault in Jos that left dozens dead and many others injured, triggering national outrage and renewed concern over insecurity in Nigeria’s north-central region.
Speaking during a visit to the state, Tinubu directed security chiefs to track down those responsible, insisting that perpetrators must be identified and brought to justice without delay. He also reassured grieving families that the government would take concrete steps to prevent a recurrence.
“There’s nothing I can give you… but to promise you that this experience will not repeat itself,” the president said, acknowledging the pain of victims while pledging decisive action.
As part of immediate measures, the government announced the deployment of additional security personnel, including over 850 troops, to reinforce existing operations in the state. Authorities also unveiled plans to install thousands of surveillance cameras aimed at improving intelligence gathering and identifying criminal elements.

Security agencies have similarly stepped up operations, with the police and military increasing their presence across affected communities, while senior officers conducted on-the-spot assessments of the situation.
Despite these assurances, criticism has trailed the government’s response, with opposition figures questioning the depth of the president’s engagement and calling for more decisive, long-term strategies to address the recurring violence.
The killings have once again highlighted the fragile security situation in Plateau State, where communities have long grappled with cycles of violence, raising urgent questions about the effectiveness of existing interventions and the need for sustainable peace-building efforts.
