Abia State Tricycle Operators Union (ASTOPU), Aba Zone, has arrested a tricycle rider, one Ude Nkama, for allegedly absconding with a female passenger’s belongings following a dispute.
According to the union, rather than reporting the issue through the proper channels, the rider fled with the passenger’s items a direct violation of ASTOPU’s code of conduct and state law.
A swift investigation, led by ASTOPU’s Director of Operations, Felix Obioma Nwaguru, was launched after the incident. Despite being given a 24-hour ultimatum to return the belongings and address the matter, the suspect failed to comply.
The breakthrough came when a vigilant ticketing officer from the Aba South Chapter identified the tricycle’s plate number, which had earlier been flagged. This led Zonal Chairman Victor Azubuike to coordinate with law enforcement, culminating in Nkama’s arrest.
The union also reassured the public that tricycle operators across Abia State are expected to maintain the highest standards of integrity and prioritize passenger safety at all times.
