Washington, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could end the ongoing war with Russia “almost immediately,” but insisted that Kyiv must abandon hopes of reclaiming Crimea or joining NATO.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote:
“President Zelenskyy of Ukraine can end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants to, or he can continue to fight. No getting back Obama-given Crimea (12 years ago, without a shot being fired!), and NO GOING INTO NATO BY UKRAINE. Some things never change!!!”
The comments came on the eve of Zelensky’s scheduled meeting at the White House with President Joe Biden and European leaders, where military aid and Ukraine’s NATO ambitions are expected to dominate discussions.
