The 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season will kick off on Friday, August 22, 2025, with 20 teams vying for supremacy in the country’s top-flight competition.

This season marks the 54th edition of the NPFL and the 36th since its professionalisation, and promises an exciting campaign under its current branding.

Opening Match

Defending champions Remo Stars FC will host Rivers United FC in the curtain-raiser at the Remo Stars Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm.

Rise of Private Clubs

The new season also sees a notable milestone: four privately owned clubs are competing, the highest number since 2019. These include:
