The 2027 senatorial race in Abia Central has received a fresh political boost as stakeholders in Ikwuano Local Government Area rallied behind the All Progressives Congress candidate, Rt. Hon. Emeka Atuma.

At a stakeholders’ meeting attended by representatives of the various clans, wards and political structures in the local government, speakers pledged to mobilise support for Atuma and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

The gathering was characterised by chants of solidarity, applause and renewed calls for unity, with speakers describing Atuma as an experienced politician and “son of the soil” whose ambition deserved the backing of Ikwuano.

Among those who spoke were the APC candidate for Ikwuano State Constituency, Hon. Ugwumba Chika; the party’s LGA Chairman, Hon. Chinedum Adindu; the APC Campaign Director-General in Ikwuano, Prof. Chiedozie Atuonwu; Oboro Clan spokesperson, Hon. Mrs Ngozi Orji; and other community and clan representatives.

The stakeholders said the task ahead was not merely to endorse Atuma but to translate the endorsement into effective grassroots mobilisation across the 2027 electoral cycle.

They consequently called on party members to remain united and take the campaign to every ward, village and community in Ikwuano.

In his response, Atuma expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him, while urging the people of Ikwuano to make a different political choice in 2027.

He argued that continued alignment with the APC, which controls the Federal Government, could provide Abia Central with stronger access to federal opportunities and development initiatives.

The former lawmaker promised that, if elected, his representation would prioritise inclusive governance, grassroots engagement and interventions aimed at addressing the development needs of the senatorial district.

Atuma also urged APC supporters to remain focused and committed, saying the emerging political alignment in Ikwuano should be sustained through the election.

The meeting attracted party leaders, community stakeholders, political actors and supporters from across the local government as the APC intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections.
