Former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will present a governorship candidate to challenge incumbent Governor Alex Otti in the 2027 elections if the party is strong enough.
Ikpeazu made this known while addressing political developments in Abia State, noting that the PDP is currently undergoing a rebuilding process following internal crises and defections.
According to him, the ability of the party to field a credible candidate will depend largely on how well it can reorganise and regain its footing before the next election cycle.
The former governor acknowledged that the PDP has suffered setbacks in recent times, with some members leaving the party, but insisted that efforts are ongoing to stabilise and reposition it for future contests.
He stressed that politics remains dynamic and that the party must first overcome its internal challenges before making firm commitments about the 2027 governorship race.

Ikpeazu also maintained that rather than abandoning the PDP, he remains committed to contributing to its revival in Abia State.
Governor Otti, who came to power in 2023 under the Labour Party, is widely expected to seek re-election in 2027, with early political realignments already taking shape across the state.
