Rivers United are back on top of the Nigeria Premier Football League table following a hard-earned 1-0 home victory over Plateau United on Matchday 34, with Wisdom Samuel’s 11th-minute goal proving the difference between the sides.
The win lifts the Port Harcourt club to 58 points from 34 games, enough to displace Rangers International from the summit. Rangers, who had been leading the table, were held to a goalless draw by Niger Tornadoes and consequently slipped to second place.
The other standout result of the day came from Aba, where Enyimba delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Katsina United that will do wonders for their survival confidence. Stanley Dimgba, Chidera Michael, and Wonah Williams were all on target for the People’s Elephant in a result that injects fresh optimism into their campaign to avoid the drop.

Kun Khalifat were equally impressive at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, dispatching Warri Wolves 3-0 with Uchechukwu Onuoha bagging a brace and Mmesoma Nnorom adding the third. Ikorodu City also enjoyed a big day at home, routing Kano Pillars 3-0 with goals from Joseph Arumala, Tosin Oyedokun, and Abayomi Ayodeji.
In the day’s only away win, Wikki Tourists edged Bayelsa United 1-0 in Yenagoa, with Imamu Bala’s 67th-minute strike separating the sides. Shooting Stars and Kwara United played out a goalless draw at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, while Barau claimed a 2-1 victory over Remo Stars.
