Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has publicly endorsed his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as his preferred successor for the 2027 governorship election.
The endorsement was announced after a closed-door meeting held at Lagos House, Marina, where Hamzat formally informed members of the State Executive Council and top political leaders of his intention to contest the state’s top office.
Also present at the meeting were members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, including Musiliu Obanikoro and Ganiyu Solomon, among other party stakeholders.
Speaking after the meeting, Sanwo-Olu said those present unanimously agreed that Hamzat was fit and well-prepared for the role, praising his experience and familiarity with governance in Lagos.
In a reaction posted later, Hamzat described the endorsement as an honour and pledged to serve Lagosians with integrity, focus and a clear sense of purpose if elected governor.
The development is expected to intensify political calculations within the ruling All Progressives Congress as the race for the 2027 Lagos governorship gathers momentum.
