Anastasia Odochi Uchenna

Popular journalist and self styled radio political analyst Anastasia Odochi Uchenna has formally declared her intention to contest the Aba Central State Constituency seat under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of the 2027 general elections closing the curtain on a broadcasting career that spanned nearly two decades.

Anastasia, a household name among political listeners in Abia State, obtained her PDP expression of interest and nomination form on Monday, signalling a decisive pivot from commentary to active political participation.

“I am moving from talking about good governance to showing how,” she declared in a statement announcing her bid.

The declaration ends a 16-year run as one of Aba’s most audacious radio voices on politics and governance a tenure that saw her rise to the peak of her career with many awards to her credit.

Beyond broadcasting, Anastasia brings a record of civic engagement to her legislative ambition. She served on a judicial panel investigating police brutality in the aftermath of the 2020 #EndSARS protests, and runs a non-governmental organisation, Odochimere Umunwanyi, dedicated to the empowerment of women and girls, a cause she has championed loudly throughout her public life.

A vocal girl child advocate, Anastasia’s entry into electoral politics will be watched closely in Abia State, where female representation in the State House of Assembly has remained critically low.

In an emotional farewell to her radio audience, she wrote: “To my fans on radio, I will really miss you. Almost two decades on radio no be beans. You guys became not just friends but family. Please, permit me to take a bow.”

The Aba Central constituency contest is expected to be fiercely competitive, with the 2027 electoral cycle already drawing a wave of fresh candidates across Abia State.
