Former President Goodluck Jonathan has hinted at a possible return to presidential politics ahead of the 2027 general election, saying he would consult widely following increasing calls from supporters urging him to contest.

Jonathan made the remark on Thursday while addressing a group of supporters who marched to his office in Abuja, appealing to him to join the 2027 presidential race.

“The presidential race is not a computer game, but I heard you, and I will consult widely,” the former president said while responding to the crowd.

The former Nigerian leader, who served as president between 2010 and 2015, stressed the importance of peace, credible elections, and patriotism in sustaining democracy in the country. He urged citizens to continue advocating peaceful electoral processes to encourage credible individuals to participate in governance.

Jonathan’s comments come amid renewed political mobilisation by groups and coalitions seeking his return to office. In recent weeks, several support groups have organised rallies and consultations across the country, arguing that Nigeria needs experienced leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development has also sparked legal and constitutional debates over Jonathan’s eligibility to contest another presidential election. A suit seeking to stop him from running in 2027 is currently before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Despite the growing pressure, Jonathan has yet to formally declare his intention to contest. Political observers, however, believe his latest remarks may further intensify discussions around possible alliances and opposition realignments ahead of the next election cycle.
