The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the appointment of international envoys as part of a new strategy to draw global attention to what it describes as “undemocratic practices” in Nigeria.
In a statement, the party said the initiative structured as a Special Representatives Network would establish formal channels of engagement with key international stakeholders, including foreign governments, parliamentary bodies, international media and democracy-focused institutions.
According to the ADC, the move is a response to what it called a “growing pattern” of actions since mid-2025 aimed at weakening opposition parties, undermining leadership structures and restricting political participation.
Under the plan, the party will deploy representatives to major global capitals such as Washington DC, London, Brussels, Berlin, Ottawa, Paris, Pretoria, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Accra, Geneva and New York.
These envoys are expected to provide regular briefings on Nigeria’s political climate, covering issues such as governance, human rights, electoral integrity and alleged repression of opposition actors, while also communicating the party’s policy positions to international audiences.

The ADC said the primary objective is to ensure that global partners receive what it termed “balanced and credible information” about developments in Nigeria, rather than relying solely on official government narratives.
As part of the broader initiative, the party also disclosed plans to launch a national documentation system to track incidents affecting political participation, including harassment, arrests and disruptions of political activities across the country.
The development comes amid ongoing political tensions and internal disputes within the party, as well as heightened debate over Nigeria’s democratic trajectory ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ADC said the initiative represents a strategic effort to strengthen its international presence and position itself as a credible alternative committed to democratic governance and accountability.
