The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has withdrawn recognition of the David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), deepening the ongoing leadership crisis within the party.
In a decisive move, the electoral body announced it would no longer accept correspondences from either the Mark-led faction or a rival group led by Rafiu Bala, effectively suspending official engagement with both camps.
INEC also declared that it would cease monitoring party activities, including meetings, congresses, and conventions, until the matter is resolved in court.
The decision follows a review of a recent Court of Appeal judgment, which has further complicated the dispute over the legitimate leadership of the party.
As part of the action, the commission confirmed plans to remove the names of David Mark and his associates from its official portal, signaling a complete withdrawal of institutional backing for the faction.
The crisis stems from legal challenges filed by rival party figures contesting the emergence of the Mark-led caretaker committee, with the case now pending before the Federal High Court.
INEC’s stance effectively freezes the party’s official activities under its supervision, leaving the ADC in limbo until the judiciary delivers a final ruling on the leadership tussle.
