During a Q&A session, the EFCC boss recounted a bizarre incident involving a former Nigerian governor who fled to the UK immediately after handing over power. According to Olukoyede, the ex-governor hosted a birthday party where he sprayed large amounts of British pounds, prompting the hotel manager to call emergency services, believing the man was mentally unstable.

“The Metropolitan Police arrived and were about to take him away in an ambulance before his friends, including two sitting governors, intervened and explained he was not insane — just a former Nigerian governor,” Olukoyede narrated.

He emphasized that the EFCC does not wait for governors to leave office before launching investigations, adding that many ongoing cases will progress to prosecution after their tenures end.
