The Nigerian Army has intensified efforts to strengthen relations with communities in the North-East through a civil-military cooperation initiative aimed at supporting education and building public confidence in security operations.
Headquarters Sector 3, Operation HADIN KAI, in collaboration with the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), donated educational materials to selected schools in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.
The initiative is part of the military’s broader efforts to address community needs while improving cooperation between troops and residents in areas affected by years of insecurity.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North-East, Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the intervention was designed not only to support schools but also to strengthen the relationship between the military and communities within its area of operation.
The materials were presented on behalf of the Sector Commander, Brigadier General Shehu Ahmed, by the Commander, Sector 3 Garrison, Brigadier General Ikechukwu Ogundele.
Ogundele described the initiative as part of the military’s non-kinetic approach to stabilisation, stressing that sustainable security requires more than military operations.
He explained that security gains are more likely to endure when communities can see a direct connection between the presence of security forces and improvements in their everyday lives.
Army Links Education to Lasting Security
The Sector 3 Commander said education support is an important component of efforts to build trust, encourage cooperation and strengthen resilience among communities that have experienced prolonged insecurity.
He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to people-oriented initiatives that contribute to peace and stability in the North-East, noting that education remains fundamental to sustainable development and community resilience.
The intervention complements the Army’s ongoing kinetic operations against insurgents and other criminal elements in the region.
The military’s approach is increasingly focused on combining security operations with community engagement and social interventions, with the aim of creating an environment where security, recovery and development can reinforce one another.
Monguno Council Appreciates Army
Receiving the educational materials on behalf of the Monguno Local Government Authority, Mr Babagana Modu Kur expressed appreciation for the military’s gesture.
He assured the Army that the materials would be distributed equitably among the benefiting schools.
The initiative forms part of the Sector’s continuing Civil-Military Cooperation programme across its area of responsibility.
Education has been identified as one of the practical avenues through which the military can strengthen community confidence and contribute to the long-term foundations of peace in the North-East.
For communities that have endured years of insecurity, the intervention represents an effort to demonstrate that military engagement extends beyond combat operations to include initiatives capable of improving the welfare and resilience of affected populations.
