The Nigerian Senate has constituted an 18-member committee to oversee the operations of the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), in a move aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the state’s governance.
The announcement was made by Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, during Tuesday’s plenary session. He emphasized the importance of the committee’s role in ensuring robust legislative oversight during the period of federal intervention in the state.
Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, will serve as chairman of the committee. Other members include Senators Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu, Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire, Sani Musa, Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe, Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, and Mohammed, along with the Clerk of the Senate.
Akpabio noted that the composition of the committee may be adjusted following further consultations. He charged the members to commence their oversight functions immediately, citing the urgency of their assignment. He also reiterated the Senate’s commitment to upholding democratic governance and due process in Rivers State.

The formation of this committee comes amid ongoing national discussions about the scope and accountability of the federally appointed Sole Administrator in the oil-rich state.

Your point of view caught my eye and was very interesting. Thanks. I have a question for you.
