Nigeria’s Federal Government has confirmed deepening security cooperation with the United States following reports of American military involvement in counter-terrorism operations across parts of the country. The development comes amid heightened global attention after reports emerged suggesting a joint security arrangement between the Nigerian government and the administration of former United States President Donald Trump.
Authorities disclosed that the collaboration was part of efforts to intensify the fight against insurgency and extremist violence, particularly activities linked to Islamic State-affiliated groups. Officials maintained that Nigeria played a crucial role in providing intelligence support that guided foreign military operations, describing the initiative as a strategic partnership designed to curb growing terror threats.
Government representatives explained that the partnership resulted in targeted airstrikes against terrorist elements, adding that the operation was executed following high-level diplomatic consultations between both countries. Nigerian officials emphasised that the intervention was carried out with the approval of the nation’s leadership and remained consistent with broader international counter-terrorism cooperation frameworks.
Security authorities further clarified that the presence of American personnel in Nigeria is limited and focused on intelligence gathering, military training, and technical support rather than full-scale combat deployment.
