Chief Emeka Ikwuagwu, former Commissioner for Youth and Sports and founder of the “Emeka Ikwuagwu Foundation,” the foremost humanitarian organisation in Isuikwuato LGA, has spoken out against the troubling issue of political “prostitution”.
From his base, Ikwuagwu stressed that political defection, which he described as a “monster,” must be eradicated if Nigeria is to make meaningful political progress.
It is worthy to note that “Emeka Ikwuagwu Foundation” made significant positive impact in Isuikwuato LGA and across Abia State. The foundation provided massive educational empowerment, scholarships, books, uniforms, cortina school shoes for students, sponsored school sports, organised many community’s youth engagement activities, hosted choir competitions, and supported numerous community projects.
Ikwuagwu condemned political opportunism and criticised those who mock rather than conmmend individuals for standing firm on their beliefs, asserting that no one would appoint unreliable individuals to manage their organisation, be it humanitarian or political.
A grassroots politician, Ikwuagwu emphasised that Nigeria’s democracy can only thrive when politicians align with their party’s ideology rather than hopping from one party to another based on electoral outcomes.
He pointed out that in established democracies like in the UK, party-switching for the sake of following election winners is uncommon, as politicians remain committed to the values of their respective political parties.
Ikwuagwu commended those committed members of PDP in Isuikwuato LGA who resisted the temptation to defect, urging them to remain steadfast in their support for the party’s principles.
He advised party members to focus on rebuilding their parties and highlighted the moral wrong of defecting to a winning party, thereby depriving those who worked hard for the party’s success of the opportunity to serve.
He further criticised politicians who after opposing a candidate, shamelessly switch to praising them once they emerge victorious.
Ikwuagwu condemned the tendency to neglect the efforts of loyal supporters, advising that if winners worked collaboratively with those who supported them, it could help curb the divisive issue of political defection and opportunism.

In his closing remarks, Ikwuagwu called for constructive and robust opposition while condemning attempts to stifle dissenting opinions.
He encouraged PDP members not to be discouraged by the party’s current political challenges, drawing inspiration from the UK’s Conservative Party, which made a strong comeback after a period of political losses.
