The Labour Party (LP) has said it feels vindicated following a Federal High Court ruling that set aside the earlier judgment compelling the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by Dr Abayomi Arabambi( FBAU) the National Vice Chairman South-West( LP), the party linked the court’s decision to its long-held criticisms of former presidential candidate Peter Obi, accusing him of leaving behind crises and internal disputes in political platforms he has been associated with.
The party alleged that Obi’s political journey through various parties, including the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party, has been characterised by controversies and divisions.
According to the statement, Labour Party embattled factional National Chairman Julius Abure and other party leaders had consistently maintained that Obi’s involvement contributed to internal disagreements within the party ahead of and after the 2023 general elections.
The party also recalled previous warnings allegedly issued to NDC leaders regarding the influence of Obi and his supporters within the emerging political platform.
Describing the court ruling as a validation of its position, the Labour Party insisted that political parties must uphold due process, institutional integrity, and internal cohesion.
The statement further reiterated the party’s commitment to rebuilding and repositioning itself as a progressive political alternative for Nigerians.
The remarks come amid renewed political realignments and coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and political actors seeking to strengthen their platforms and alliances.
