Nigerian celebrity chef and entrepreneur Hilda Baci has been honoured by Guinness World Records (GWR) with the prestigious GWR Icon recognition, becoming the first Nigerian to receive the distinction.
The recognition celebrates individuals whose achievements have gone beyond setting records to inspire people globally and leave a lasting impact in their respective fields.
Guinness World Records said Hilda Baci earned the honour not only for her record-breaking accomplishments but also for inspiring a wave of record attempts across Nigeria and Africa following her historic cook-a-thon in 2023.
Baci first gained global recognition after completing a 93-hour, 11-minute cooking marathon, setting the record for the longest individual cooking marathon. Although that record has since been surpassed, her achievement ignited unprecedented interest in Guinness World Records across the continent.
She later returned to the record books by setting the world record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice and was subsequently recognised as a three-time Guinness World Records holder.
Reacting to the latest recognition, an emotional Baci described the honour as one she does not take lightly, expressing gratitude to God and dedicating the achievement to Nigeria and everyone who supported her journey.
Guinness World Records noted that Baci’s influence extends far beyond the kitchen, describing her as a trailblazer whose determination, ambition, and passion have inspired countless people to pursue extraordinary goals.
The latest honour further cements Hilda Baci’s place among the world’s most influential record holders and celebrates her contribution to promoting Nigerian cuisine and inspiring excellence on the global stage.
