The Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Aba Zone, has announced that it will commence the enforcement of its Waste Bucket Drive for homes, shops, tricycles (Keke), and commercial buses across Aba from July 1st, 2026.
In a press release signed by the Deputy General Manager of ASEPA (Aba Zone), Elder Okezie Ezengwa, the agency urged residents and business owners who have already purchased the approved waste buckets to use them strictly for proper waste management.
According to ASEPA, the waste buckets must not be used for any purpose other than waste disposal, warning that misuse of the containers will attract government sanctions.
The agency also advised residents, shop owners, commercial transport operators, and others who are yet to obtain the approved waste buckets to purchase them before the commencement of the enforcement exercise.
The waste buckets are available at the ASEPA Aba Zone Office located at No. 9 Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba, opposite Aba Power by Bata Junction.
ASEPA warned that individuals and businesses found without the approved waste buckets after the commencement date risk arrest and prosecution in line with the state’s environmental sanitation regulations.

The agency emphasized that the initiative is part of the Abia State Government’s commitment to improving environmental cleanliness, promoting proper waste disposal practices, and sustaining a cleaner and healthier Aba.
Members of the public requiring further information were advised to contact ASEPA through its official telephone lines.
Reaffirming its commitment to environmental sanitation, the agency urged all residents to cooperate with the directive, stressing that maintaining a clean Aba is a collective responsibility.
“Aba must be clean,” the statement concluded.
